This Senior Payroll Advisor position is a client-facing role within a well-established payroll bureau. The successful candidate will take ownership of a diverse portfolio of complex payrolls, acting as a trusted technical specialist for both clients and internal stakeholders. The role offers the opportunity to move beyond processing into advisory, mentoring and operational improvement, contributing to the continued development of the payroll function.
About the role
- Manage end-to-end payroll processes across weekly, monthly and annual cycles for a portfolio of complex, multi-entity clients
- Oversee payrolls involving payrolled benefits, share schemes, and expatriate employee arrangements
- Ensure compliance with HMRC regulations, including RTI submissions, statutory filings and year-end reporting (e.g. P60s, reconciliations)
- Administer auto-enrolment and complex pension schemes in line with regulatory requirements
- Act as a key client contact, providing technical guidance on payroll legislation, holiday pay and statutory payments
- Support system optimisation and onboarding, including advanced use of payroll systems and mentoring junior team members
About you
- Minimum of three years’ UK payroll experience, ideally within a bureau or professional services environment
- Strong working knowledge of UK payroll legislation, including pensions, auto-enrolment and statutory compliance
- Experience handling complex payrolls, including multi-entity or international arrangements
- Proficiency in payroll systems (such as IRIS Payroll Professional) and strong Excel capabilities
- Confident communicator with the ability to manage client relationships and explain technical matters clearly
- CIPP qualification advantageous, though not essential
