I am an experienced technology driven L&D professional, with a demonstrated history working in both educational and commercial settings.

I am passionate about teaching and learning, people development and future skills developments implementation. I have a multi-disciplined background, with around 23 years of educational teaching experience across a wide range of applications from delivery and curriculum management in (AME) advanced manufacture engineering to governmental curriculum development / roll out of the workforce emerging future skills. I have worked in a variety of senior positions - I am an extremely pro-active and hardworking individual, a tech. savvy person with a strategic thinking approach to innovative solutions, I am a sharp minded problem solver committed to always maintaining the highest of standards of quality.

About

I have been at the heart of client facing relationships and people development within the organisation I have most recently work for, I have been directly involved with business development / decisions – holding presentations with stakeholders, L&D presentations on key focussed areas for the business to the management, staff and funders. Further to this, I have also performed several (paid for) keynote presentations at events these have included online presentations and in person at various conferences and IoT’s.

Throughout 2023-24, I have played a lead role in two of the company’s larger grant funded contracts. These contracts have included work I have done on the presentation of evidence, figures and quarterly monitoring meetings to meet obligations. On these projects I have had to work with multiple stakeholders and partners to work through development tasks and meet deliverables.

In 2021-22 during my secondment, I lead on the creation of project curriculum material required by a shared agenda to deliver multiple units of teaching materials, including e-learning, assessments, schemes of work, lesson plans and high-level roadmaps. I had to work with a team of around five other learning professionals and co-ordinate our output with the National lead.

I have an extensive network from contacts gained working with both STEM, the HVMC and Faraday Institute leads and academia. I follow discussions and contribute on national efforts where I can present influence. My teaching knowledge is still current - I am aware of changing environments and ongoing specification changes / training board updates.

I currently still contribute to the Skills Development Community, Engineering networks – recently I contributed on some AI engine testing for the Automotive Skills Council and helped to form some of the framework developments for the governments drive in future skills for Hydrogen.

In previous positions, I have been responsible for budget allocation and use of government funded money e.g. In secondary school’s - capita spending per head (pupil) with set department budget allocation on project materials etc. In my current position, I have had to be mindful of overall grant funding spend and make sure that the project work has utilised funds available responsibly.

I have a wealth of experience and resources around learning methodologies and ‘teaching & learning development tool kits’ – techniques which I have used personally and taught / coached to people over the years. In my current role – learning methods have been at the heart of the product experiences I have shaped, re-pivoted and developed narrative on (instructional design) their products for production and immersive use with educational clients and OEMs.

I have planned, organised and lead on Train the Trainer events for two major government funded projects (the emerging skills project and Faraday Battery Challenge – workforce development) these both involved week-long courses of preparation for leaders from industry and colleges on the delivery of how to teach and assess these new programmes from a leadership level, this included H&S, risk management, equipment planning as well as road mapping of the framework, looking at schemes of work and the delivery of course materials.
In Schools and FE/HE, I have planned out and written block plans of work required by students and followed this planning. As the year one lead on AME programme, I worked with the Head of Department, QA and IQA leads on timetabling (waterfalls) and the development of the mid-term planning. I was also able to assist with the planning and preparations for the lead external verifiers visits. This included selected students work and any other necessary 'required' administration paperwork.

In my previous role as a Nissan apprentice trainer. I have carried out performance reviews with adult apprentices, developed action plans, helped the students manage their own organisational improvements and helped them to develop their softer skills (e.g., in social awareness / political navigation + mental coping strategies i.e., during covid through regular open communication) in their learning journeys with their employers and education provider.
Previously as an experienced teacher, I have been involved in the Coaching new teachers – on inset and teacher training program / working to the DfE & GTC Standards. These teachers went on to meet the requirements set and have become successful staff across various organisations. I had also had various input into the leadership at all levels programme – leading on inset presentations for ‘tools and techniques’ to strengthen and streamline working practices.
I am a person who is very good at multi-tasking, in my current role, the teams I work with are required to work on multiple projects synchronously. It is an essential I can do this end-to-end being the head of learning and often leading the design pathways. I have excellent attention to details skills, my current role also requires a lot of ‘Quality’ feedback to the production team, and before a customer release is made.

As Electrification lead in 2022, I worked with our head of Quality to setup two custom qualifications with NCFE for our large OEM apprentice provider, this organisation then sent most of its current PQA 'adult' staff to train with me due to a demand need of its 10-million-pound battery assembly facility. Understanding the training needs from a delivery side is pivotal to effective integrated marketing and recruitment strategies around provision.

I have a national sense of where we are with training needs and engineering workforce projects. I am very used to the reports, documentation, processes and the paperwork needed for an organisation to function (both commercially and academically) and have worked with academic institutions for over two decades. I have up to date and current knowledge of the government skills funding initiatives (though this is currently going through a reform with Skills England). I have contributed on steering groups in the region with a more national perspective on Engineering and workforce activities due to my involvement with OEMs, the DfE and Catapults etc.

I have an excellent understanding of H&S management, risk management and training area needs. I am a certified Emergency First Response Instructor in AED, Primary and Secondary Care; both Adults and Care for Children. I view safety very seriously. Whist working at the college as an Electrification lead Health and Safety risk assessment processes were paramount working with 400-800v battery equipment. I therefore worked closely with the Health and Safety officer to ensure we had the correct documentation and procedures in place.

Working hard in education for 23 years, seeing all walks of people succeed and move onto their next steps or into employment has always given me great satisfaction and a sense of purpose. For me, I believe people should be able to reach their full potential with no 'glass ceiling', making a positive impact with the work they do and what they contribute to society. I pride myself on a management style of a ‘supportive leader – approachable in confidence’ forming sound relationships with colleagues, based around trust, and seeing all ability is paramount.
