About
Dear Hiring Manager,
I would like to be considered for an electrical design engineering position within your
organisation. I am an Electrical Design Engineer with over four years of experience designing MV
and LV power systems for data centre, power generation and industrial projects across the UK,
Europe and the Middle East.
Since April 2024 I have been responsible at AVK–SEG for the electrical package design of
containerised standby power systems serving large-scale data centres in the UK and Europe,
running seven projects concurrently. The scope covers 11kV MV and 400V LV generators and
switchgear, MV:LV transformers, neutral earthing resistors, ATS and distribution panels, and
generator differential and restricted earth fault protection schemes. I produce the construction
document set including single line diagrams, control schematics, GA and cable layouts, sizing
calculations, schedules and termination drawings in EPLAN P8 and AutoCAD, coordinated with
the mechanical, controls and civil teams before issue.
The work does not stop at the issued drawing. I specify equipment with regional vendors, review
and approve technical submittals, close out RFIs, and attend FWT, FAT and SAT for the packages
I design. I also visit site to verify that installed cabling, switchgear and control connections match
the design, where discrepancies are cheapest to catch.
At DESCON, I spent two years on FEED and detailed design for SABIC petrochemical plants in Saudi Arabia. That work covered feasibility studies and FEED for more than 20 brownfield projects worth around £25 million, and design and calculations for 13 substations across 230 kV HV, 4.16 kV MV and 0.4 kV LV systems, plus hazardous area classification, fire alarm layouts and the design of critical control rooms. Between the two roles I have worked to BS 7671, IEC, IEEE and NFPA
requirements.
I am also Fabstation certified and use HoloLens to review complete assemblies before
fabrication, which picks up access and clash issues that are easy to miss on a 2D drawing and
has shortened our review cycles. Finding practical improvements of that kind is the part of the
job I enjoy most.
Having worked across data centres, substations and grid systems, power generation and heavy
industry, I can move between sectors without a long run-up. I am based in Slough, happy to
travel to sites as the role requires. I would welcome the chance to discuss where I could fit in your
team and thank you for your time.
Yours sincerely,
Sibtain Maqsood
