People Operations Advisor
Annesley, Nottinghamshire
Salary: £38,000 – £45,000pa DOE
Permanent | Full-time | Predominantly On-site with Some Flexibility
Macildowie are working exclusively with a well-established manufacturing business based in Nottinghamshire, to recruit a People Operations Advisor into their established People team.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys a hands-on, operational HR role, where you'll be visible across the business, working closely with managers and employees and getting involved in a real variety of people matters.
For this hire, the business is open-minded on experience. You may already be working as an HR Advisor, or perhaps you're an experienced HR Assistant or HR Officer who has gained some exposure to employee relations and is looking for that next step in your career.
What's important is finding someone with the right attitude, strong HR foundations and the confidence to work within a busy manufacturing environment.
With a sizeable shop floor population, 24/7 operations and a number of ongoing People projects, this is an opportunity to join a business where HR plays an important part in supporting both employees and operational managers.
The Role
Working closely with the wider People team and operational managers, you'll provide practical HR advice, guidance and support across a range of generalist HR activities.
The role offers a good balance of day-to-day operational HR, employee relations and wider People projects, with the opportunity to develop your experience further.
Your responsibilities will include:
-
Supporting and managing employee relations matters, including grievances, investigations, absence, performance and conduct issues
-
Working closely with managers on both short and long-term absence management, including formal absence processes
-
Coaching and supporting managers with day-to-day people matters, helping them build confidence in managing their teams
-
Building strong relationships with employees and managers, maintaining a visible and approachable HR presence across the manufacturing site
-
Supporting the implementation of a new time and attendance system, including manager training and employee self-service
-
Supporting the delivery and continuous improvement of HR policies, procedures and processes
-
Getting involved in employee engagement, reward and recognition and wider culture initiatives
-
Supporting organisational change, workforce planning and other People projects
-
Producing and interpreting HR data and management information, including absence reporting
-
Working collaboratively within a unionised environment
-
Supporting apprenticeship, employee development and wider talent initiatives
-
Ensuring HR processes and practices remain compliant with employment legislation and best practice
What Are We Looking For?
Ideally, you'll have gained experience within an HR generalist, HR Officer or HR Advisor role, although the business would also consider someone currently working at HR Assistant level who is ready to take that next step.
Experience within manufacturing, engineering, logistics or a similarly operational environment would be particularly beneficial, as this is very much a hands-on role with regular interaction across the shop floor.
You'll also bring:
-
Some practical exposure to employee relations, particularly absence management, grievances and investigations
-
Confidence communicating with employees and managers at different levels
-
A proactive, approachable and down-to-earth style
-
The ability to build relationships and establish credibility within an operational environment
-
A good understanding of HR processes, policies and UK employment legislation
-
Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
-
Confidence working with HR systems, data and management information
-
Good Excel skills and attention to detail
-
A willingness to get involved in projects and support improvements across the People function
-
An interest in continuing to develop your HR knowledge and experience
A CIPD qualification, or working towards one, would be advantageous, as would previous experience within a unionised environment.
You don't necessarily need to have independently managed complex ER cases previously. If you've gained some exposure, have a good understanding of the processes and are keen to develop further, the business would be interested in hearing from you.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
This is a great opportunity to join an established People team where you'll have the support of experienced HR colleagues whilst continuing to develop your own skills and experience.
The role offers genuine variety, from supporting managers with day-to-day HR matters through to getting involved in systems implementation, employee engagement, organisational change and wider People initiatives.
You'll be joining a busy manufacturing environment where being visible, approachable and building relationships really matters.
The position is predominantly site-based, reflecting the hands-on nature of the role, although there is some flexibility to work from home when required.
The business also offers free on-site parking, including EV charging.
If you're an HR Advisor looking for a varied operational role, or an experienced HR Assistant or HR Officer ready to take that next step, we'd love to hear from you.
