Health & Safety and Compliance Manager

We are seeking a dedicated Health & Safety and Compliance Manager to provide strategic leadership and expert advice across our Trust. This pivotal role ensures that we meet our statutory health and safety obligations and maintain effective compliance arrangements across all schools. The successful candidate will act as the Trust's Designated Competent Person, leading the development of a proactive safety culture and overseeing risk management and compliance assurance.
Day-to-day of the role:
- Act as the Trust's Designated Competent Person for Health and Safety, providing professional advice and assurance to Trustees, the CEO, and senior leaders.
- Lead the development and implementation of the Trust-wide Health and Safety Strategy.
- Establish and maintain effective systems, processes, and assurance arrangements for consistent management of health, safety, and statutory compliance across all schools.
- Monitor legislative changes and policy effectiveness to identify continuous improvement opportunities.
- Oversee risk assessments and control measures, providing specialist advice on high-risk activities.
- Plan and deliver a programme of audits, inspections, and monitoring activities to assess compliance and implement improvements.
- Coordinate Health and Safety governance arrangements and provide detailed reports to executive leaders and trustees.
- Lead the management, investigation, and reporting of accidents, incidents, and near misses.
- Develop and deliver Health and Safety training, guidance, and support to ensure all staff are capable of fulfilling their responsibilities effectively.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent Level 6 Health and Safety qualification.
- Significant experience in a senior Health and Safety role within a complex multi-site organisation.
- Proven experience as a Competent Person advising on statutory compliance and organisational risk.
- Strong track record of developing and implementing Health and Safety strategies, policies, and frameworks.
- Skilled in conducting audits, inspections, and incident investigations.
- Excellent analytical skills with experience in analysing compliance information and presenting findings.
- Strong knowledge of UK Health and Safety legislation and best practices.
- Excellent communication, influencing, and stakeholder management skills.
- Competent in Microsoft Office applications and compliance management systems.
