HR Business Partner - Birmingham
A complex, multi site organisation is looking to appoint a HR Business Partner to take ownership of delivering a high impact people service across a diverse operational area.
This is a senior, hands-on role where you’ll work closely with leadership teams to navigate risk, manage complex employee relations matters, and strengthen overall people practices. You’ll play a key role in balancing commercial priorities with requirements, while ensuring a fair approach across the workforce.
The opportunity
You’ll act as a go-to advisor for senior stakeholders, supporting on everything from complex casework through to organisational change and performance challenges. Alongside this, you’ll lead a small HR team, ensuring the delivery of a responsive, high-quality service.
This role requires someone comfortable operating at pace, making sound judgements, and dealing with ambiguity.
What you’ll be responsible for
- Acting as a senior HR contact for leaders, providing clear, commercially aware advice on people-related matters
- Taking the lead on complex and high-risk employee relations issues, ensuring appropriate and timely resolution
- Supporting decision-making where there are regulatory considerations
- Managing risk associated with formal proceedings,
- Ensuring people data is accurate, meaningful, and used to inform actions and reporting
- Supporting organisational change activity, including workforce transitions and integration of new services
- Overseeing reward-related activity such as pay reviews and incentive processes
- Reviewing casework trends to identify improvements and strengthen overall HR delivery
- Supporting and guiding HR team members, developing their capability and ensuring consistency of approach
Driving improvement
- Using workforce data to identify patterns in absence, turnover, and casework, translating insight into action
- Contributing to initiatives that enhance engagement, retention, and inclusion
- Supporting leadership development through coaching, training, and practical guidance
- Leading or contributing to wider HR and business improvement projects
What they’re looking for
- A seasoned HR professional with experience operating at a senior advisory or partnering level
- Strong technical knowledge of UK employment law and experience applying it in complex situations
- A track record of managing high-risk employee relations matters and supporting organisational change
- Confidence influencing senior stakeholders and providing balanced, pragmatic challenge
- Experience leading or mentoring HR team members
