People & Culture Generalist
12-15 month contract
25 hours per week
Stoke-on-Trent
£33,000 full-time equivalent
People person? HR all-rounder? Looking for a role that fits around your life, not the other way around? This could be right up your street.
Not every great HR opportunity needs to be full-time. Sometimes, the right role is one that gives you variety, responsibility and the chance to make a genuine difference — while still leaving room for life outside work.
We're looking for an experienced HR Generalist to join a well-established business in Stoke-on-Trent on a maternity cover contract of approximately 12-15 months.
Working 25 hours per week across five days, you'll play an important part in supporting managers and employees, keeping HR processes running smoothly and helping to create a positive workplace where people feel supported.
If you're confident handling day-to-day HR matters, enjoy a bit of problem-solving and believe good HR is about people as much as policies, we'd love to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities
Working closely with the People & Culture Manager, you'll be a trusted point of contact for employees and managers across the business. You'll support a broad range of HR activities, helping ensure everything is handled consistently, professionally and in line with employment legislation.
Your days will be varied, with a balance of employee relations, administration, wellbeing and continuous improvement.
What you'll be getting stuck into:
- Providing practical, day-to-day HR advice and guidance to managers and employees.
- Supporting employee relations matters, including disciplinary issues, redundancy processes and the application of HR policies.
- Assisting with meetings, return-to-work reviews and other employee-related processes.
- Supporting employee wellbeing, welfare, flexible working arrangements and occupational health activities.
- Maintaining accurate, confidential employee records and HR documentation.
- Producing and monitoring HR KPIs, helping identify trends and opportunities to improve processes.
- Keeping relevant intranet and website content accurate and up to date.
- Staying abreast of employment legislation and HR best practice.
- Spotting opportunities to make HR processes more effective and improve the overall employee experience.
Skills & Experience Required
We're looking for someone who knows their way around HR, is comfortable supporting people at different levels and can combine a sensible, solutions-focused approach with genuine empathy.
You'll ideally bring:
- A CIPD Level 5 qualification and education to A Level standard or equivalent.
- Around 3-5 years' experience working within an HR function at a similar level.
- Sound knowledge of employment law, HR policies and procedures.
- Confidence supporting employee relations matters and advising managers within your level of responsibility.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to juggle competing priorities without losing sight of the detail.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive working relationships.
- The discretion to handle sensitive information professionally and confidentially.
- A proactive, adaptable approach, with the confidence to work independently and as part of a team.
You don't need to have all the answers immediately, but you do need to be willing to find them. You'll have support from the People & Culture Manager and the wider team, with opportunities to broaden your experience across a variety of HR activities.
