Health, Safety & Wellbeing Consultant

Join a leading Yorkshire Local Authority as a Health, Safety & Wellbeing Consultant in an established and supportive team. This role is crucial for supporting the delivery of the Council’s Health, Safety & Wellbeing Strategy, ensuring effective and consistent implementation of policies, procedures, and wellbeing initiatives across all services. The ideal candidate will be a generalist Health & Safety professional with experience across varied operational environments, particularly in education, social care, and community-based settings.
Day-to-day of the role:
- Conduct site visits across children’s homes, schools, offices, leisure facilities, cemeteries, neighbourhood services, and community settings.
- Carry out risk assessments, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Safe Systems of Work, and Method Statements.
- Undertake Health & Safety and wellbeing audits, supporting directorates through findings and action plans.
- Develop and implement Health & Safety and wellbeing initiatives, policies, and procedures.
- Build relationships across council services, schools, trade unions, public health, and partners.
- Support wellbeing campaigns and Health & Safety culture development.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- NEBOSH General Certificate (Level 3).
- Strong Health & Safety and wellbeing technical knowledge.
- Proven experience in risk assessments, safe systems of work, SOPs, and method statements.
- Skilled in conducting audits and analysing data, trends, and risk information.
- Highly desirable: Experience in education settings, children’s services or social care, and large office-based workforces. IOSH membership is a plus.
