Trade Compliance Specialist
We are looking for a Trade Compliance Assistant to provide dedicated support to our exclusive client’s Trade Compliance Manager. This position is essential in maintaining accurate and up-to-date customer data for customs declarations, while ensuring strict adherence to all applicable import and export regulations, legislation, and internal policies. The successful candidate will play a key role in reducing compliance risks, enabling smooth cross-border movements, and upholding the organisation’s commitment to ethical, compliant, and responsible international trade practices.
Documentation & Data Management
- Obtain, verify, and securely store all import and export documentation.
- Collect, review, and maintain original consignee and end-user undertakings, including monitoring their validity.
- Log, track, and update compliance statements and licence details within Oracle.
- Document, update, and maintain import and export procedures to support regulatory compliance.
Compliance & Regulatory Control
- Support the licensing process for controlled goods and conduct initial compliance reviews upon licence approval.
- Perform daily SECL/ECCN checks on new orders.
- Release export holds once all compliance requirements have been met.
- Conduct ad hoc audits to ensure record accuracy and adherence to regulations.
Shipment Processing & Customs Support
- Carry out daily hold checks to ensure timely shipment processing.
- Complete the initial sign-off of shipping documents to verify accuracy and compliance.
- Provide clear instructions to couriers and freight forwarders handling customs declarations.
- Identify and resolve declaration-related issues to ensure smooth customs clearance.
- Ensure correct application and adherence to Incoterms for all shipments.
Administrative & Continuous Improvement
- Provide general administrative support to the Trade Compliance Manager.
- Assist with process improvement initiatives to enhance trade compliance efficiency
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Demonstrable superior written and verbal communication skills, both internally and externally to customers and suppliers.
- Proficiency in using Microsoft platforms such as Excel and other software packages.
- Ability to work proactively and confidently without close supervision.
- Ability to interface and work well with all levels of management personnel and across/down functional lines.
