Liverpool Hope University is seeking to appoint a HR Manager within its People Services Department.
The post holder will provide a comprehensive and professional HR service to across the University, supporting the delivery of the University’s strategic and operational objectives through effective people management practice.
Reporting to the Director of People Services, the HR Manager will offer high-quality advice and guidance to managers and staff across a broad range of HR matters, including employee relations, recruitment and selection, performance management, organisational change, workforce planning and policy development. The role involves working closely with senior leaders and trade union colleagues to support constructive working relationships and ensure compliance with employment legislation and University policies.
The successful candidate will have significant experience in a comparable HR role within a large, complex organisation and will demonstrate the ability to manage a varied and demanding workload, prioritise effectively and adapt to changing requirements. A professional HR qualification (MCIPD or equivalent) or degree-level qualification/relevant professional experience is essential, along with a strong commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion and to the mission and values of Liverpool Hope University.
Finally you will represent the University with credibility at regional and national levels contributing to sector discussions and ensuring Hope’s voice is influential in shaping employment practice across higher education. Through constructive engagement with trade unions, external partners and regulatory bodies you will help strengthen the University’s reputation as a responsible, values-driven and people-centred employer.
Key Tasks
Provide comprehensive support, consultancy and clear advice to managers and staff in their designated area of the University in line with the Strategic Plan and People Strategy
Ensure HR support is fully aligned with the operational needs of Senior Management, Faculties and Departments at the University by building strong partnerships at all levels in order to understand their priorities and add value to their activities.
Provide professional, confidential and consistent advice and guidance on a wide range of HR issues in line with HR policy and current employment legislation.
Liaise with local trade union colleagues on employee relations issues to assist with resolution of conflict, grievances and disciplinary matters and ensure positive working relationships across the University.
Manage the recruitment and selection processes in their designated area and attend interviews as required.
Undertake job design and role evaluation in line with the University’s job evaluation scheme.
Ensure the University’s Performance Management framework is fully implemented.
Provide consistent support and guidance in line with HR policy and procedures on organisational change.
Provide support and advice on workforce and succession planning, seeking and providing appropriate advice to ensure staffing structures and workforce profile is agile to respond to changing environment and demands.
To initiate, revise and develop people policies and procedures as appropriate and in line with legislation, and business need.
Ensure equality and diversity is embedded in all aspects of the employment cycle through strategic policy and operational developments and initiatives.
Represent the University and internal and external groups as required in support and delivery of the People strategy and provide reports, recommendations and feedback to the HR team as required.
Take a corporate lead on a specific strategic area identified in the University’s People Strategy (eg, Equality; Wellbeing; Performance Management) as determined by the Director of Personnel.
Lead projects within the People Services department to improve existing practices and procedures, researching best practice as required and working collaboratively with colleagues from different HR teams.
To assist with the provision of HR statistics to inform and support advice given to managers in relation to staff turnover and retention, sickness absence, equality and diversity etc.
